HI!

Another excellent Edublogs.org weblog

Jackie Chan, the greatest.

Jackie Chan was born in 1954 in the former Crown colong of Hong Kong. When Jackie Chan was born his nickname was cannonball because of his enormous size he was when he was just a mere baby weighing at 12 pounds. Jackie’s parents, Charles and Lee Lee Chan worked for the French Consul to Hong Kong, and so that sort of forced Jackie to spend his formative years within the grounds of the conul’s residence in the Victoria Peak district.
When Jackie was old enough to go to school, he attended the Nah-Hwa Primary School on Hong Kong Island. He failed his first year and his parents withdrew him from the school. Later on his father got a job as the head cook for the American embassy and Jackie was sent to the China Drama Academy where he would soon learn all of his martial art tricks and stunts. Jackie had spent the next decade training extremely hard and excelling in martial arts and acrobatics. He eventually worked his way up to be part of the Seven Little Fortunes; a group made up of the school’s best students.
Because of Jackie’s rigorous training at the China Drama Academy, he got his first gig at the age of 8 in the film, Big and Little Wong Tin Bar made in 1962. From then on Jackie has excelled in reappearing in movie roles. His first big role was the movie staring him was the move Little Tiger of Canton which came out in 1973. Jackie was certainly doing it big.
Jackie Chan is an icon to many of the martial artists out there. They look upon him and embrace his presence in his movies because he has turned his movies into an action pack comedy thrill. He has been nominated for a ton of awards that honor him in his name. Jackie Chan has certainly will be one of the best in this time and for future generations. He is one of my idols and I can assure many out there that they are too looking up at Jackie Chan for his performance and overcoming that he has done throughout his life so far. Without Jackie Chan in any of the industries such as, Holly Wood, I believe the movie system would be extremely different and have a trait that is boring if Jackie Chan weren’t in the movie roles. He is one of three greatest martial artists of all times next to Bruce Lee and Jet Li. Once again, Jackie Chan, a noble man, with great prosperity that he has to bring to the table and his discipline to share with us.

The Future for the Cars

There are companies out there that are trying to stop all these gas guzzling cars to be driven and save the planet. Auto industries are even taking a step into creating hybrid cars and even cars that are run on hydrogen. Cars have come a long way since the first automobile built in 1907 built by Henry Ford. Since then, cars have been exponentially growing with technology. Before, when Ford created his first car, it came with a seat and a steering wheel to drive the car. Nowadays, cars come with power-steering, navigation, powered windows, I-pod adapter, and many more that have all become standard items within the car.
Now that we are progressing with technology in our cars, we are now trying to find a new fuel source to be put inside the cars. According to PopSci’s article (http://www.popsci.com/cars/article/2010-04/does-future-car-live-china) China’s auto industry has exploded in just over a decade. Since November 2009, China is the largest automobile market in the world, combining active partnerships with established foreign brands with a thrived, developing domestic market. 30 years ago, Chinese citizens were banned from buying any kind of car, but now in 2009 the country has sold over 13.8 million cars and sped past Japan to become the world’s largest automobile producer. So somewhere in those line of cars will hold the future of our new cars. Whether some scientist will figure out a new alternative fuel source or an aerodynamic car that saves gas somehow.
China’s technology is rapidly increasing and because this world is so accustomed and attached to technology, it will be in no time that there will be better, faster, saving fuel, cars in the near future. It is without a doubt either China or some other top dog country such as, the US to come up with some kind of way to produce better cars for the future.

Giant Squid!

We’ve all heard of the enormous squid that lies in the deep bed of the seas that are supposedly known to dispatch whales and submarines with ease. Our imagination can go quite further and explain everything that our fear has to see. There have been great stories that the Greeks have told and been passed down by their ancestors from generation to generation, but that is more a mythology factor than a biological factor. Recently there was a sighting of huge squid in the Atlantic Ocean. These huge squid, which can weigh more that 1,100 pounds, may have a supremely slow metabolism, allowing it to live on a tenth of a pound of fish flesh per day. Scientist, Rui Rosa of the Laboratorio Maritimo da Guia in Lisbon argues that, “the colossal squid is not a voracious predator capable of high-speed predator–prey interactions.”
So the myth about an enormous squid attacking submarines and taking out pirate ships is just a hoax and a myth. They are just like any other animal in the kingdom of life that are here to survive in their local environment. Who knows, maybe there some kind of life form of a enormous squid that has taken down pirate ships or submarines that lurk in the waters where the squid sleeps and whom ever awakes it fears its wrath. The world is full of unknown mysteries that are still being uncovered. But sometimes not knowing the truth that the world has for us is best and left alone.

Cigarette Butts

Have you ever seen a smoker and throw his cigarette butt after smoking it into the streets? Or seen an obscene amount of buds put away in the containment after you just saw the construction workers put a new one there yesterday. It doesn’t even matter what brand the cigarette is, we just know it annoys the heck out of us when we see it on the street or overflowing in some containment center.
Most people would think there would be a law about flicking your cigarette butt into the street causing pollution and toxic to the fish in the system. It seems to me that when most smokers throw their cigarette butts into the street; their eyes only see the bud being put away into the streets. Well no longer will these butts have to go to waste. There is finally a purpose for smokers, typically to cigarette smokers.
Instead when smokers flick their butts into the streets or have them overflowed in a containment center, they will now have a sole purpose. According to Yahoo’s article (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100513/sc_nm/us_butts) the China scientists, in Hong Kong, found a use for cigarette butts. Instead of the chemical extracting a poisons toxin that kill fish, the cigarette butt can now be used to protect steel pipes from rusting. The Chinese Scientists, “They applied the extracts to N80, a type of steel used in oil pipes, and found that they protected the steel from rusting.” This could be a new breakthrough for many companies that have old buildings. All they must do is waiting for the Chinese Scientists to create a substance that is stable so all the company has to do is apply it to the pipes and then there should be no rust.
China has 300 million smokers, and it is known for the world’s largest smoking nation and it consumes a third of the world’s cigarettes. With the amount of butts that is left behind, could leave an enormous amount of substance to create anti-rusting for pipes.

Video Games

Video games have long known to be mans best friend when they couldn’t get a dog. They have been around to support and comfort those who are weak in their social mode. So the video game is always there to comfort to who ever it may be. But when exactly was the first video game invented? It was a game that was invented before the legendary Pong game. The game was called “Tennis for Two” and was first introduced on October 18, 1959. This ancient piece of technology that we see today was high tech back then. The games creator was William Higginbotham, a nuclear physicist who had worked the Manhattan Project. Little did Higginbotham know, he created the first video game ever to start a revolution for many more video games to come into the future?

Today we are living in an age where the gaming era is constantly growing into a more technological form for the user to be much more interactive. Gaming systems such as the PS3 or Xbox 360 are two dominant systems that are destroying all the competition out there. Both systems have created number one top selling video games that have made the company a multi-millionaire business. Video games have certainly moved a long way from the game, Tennis for Two.

One of the top selling video games for Xbox 360 was Halo 3. Halo 3 is a first person shooter game developed for Bungee. Because Halo 3 was much more technologically improved and enhanced as one of the best games anyone will ever play, it grossed US$300 million in its first week. The game’s graphics are HD and bring a “real life situation for the player.

Since 1959, video games and systems have improved dramatically. Sooner or later the two big corporations, Sony and Microsoft (Xbox 360) will be dead technology and some other huge company will take over and bring a new system with better playing actions to the user. Because technology will never stop growing and advancing in this day in age, the opportunity for gaming systems will never seek to evolve. Soon gaming systems will evolve into a real life system that someone could wear on there glasses or shades and play the video game right in front of them just by using there brain. These systems will never stop to obtain full power.

Gray Whales

In recent articles such as, Yahoo’s “Gray whales off Israel called ‘most amazing sighting in history of whales’” have apparently been astonishing to many of the readers out there. It was May 8, 2010 when the gray whale was spotted swimming in the Mediterranean Sea off Israel. This has been deemed as “the most amazing sighting in the history of whales” said by Robert Brownwell, a cetacean researcher.

Scientists are now trying to figure out how the gray whale might have traveled from the Pacific to the North Atlantic. Scientists say in the Mediterranean Sea the gray whales species have been extinct for about 300 years.

Evolution is certainly taking its toll in this scenario. Many researchers say “this could be the mark of the beginning of the re-population effort by a species not encountered in the region since the late 17th or early 18th centuries. This could be an astonishing moment if and when the gray whales to come back to re-populate in the Atlantic. The whale that was spotted was about 40 feet. So according to the Yahoo article these whales could not have survived unnoticed in the Atlantic for 300 years.

Scientists are to believe that the gray whales are ” renowned travelers and feed during the summer in the Bering and Chukchi seas and migrate each winter more than 5,000 miles to mating and calving.” Which means this is unbelievable to see a gray whale in the Atlantic because it traveled another 8,000 miles. Scientists still don’t know why this particular gray whale came to the Atlantic, but they are now keeping an eye out for more of the same species.

Apple Ipad Banned

In the latest new, Apple has come out with an I-pad that is like an E-reader but technologically more advanced. Basically the I-pad is like a net book. It hold many of the features like the I-touch and I-phone has, but it has caused some trouble in some countries already. According to Yahoo’s article http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100415/ap_on_hi_te/ml_israel_ipad_ban, Israel has banned imports of Apple Inc’s I-pad because it concerns the people of Israel that the powerful gadget’s wireless signals could disrupt other devices. This ban prevents anyone from using an I-pad in Israel; even tourist bringing I-pads into Israel until officials certify that they comply with local transmitter standards. According to the US Federal Communications Commission allows Wi-Fi capability to broadcast at higher power levels than are allowed in Europe and Israel, in other words, Apple’s I-pad has a stronger signal that could throw off others’ wireless connections. A direct quote from the senior deputy director for the communications confirms this signal disruptions, “If you operate equipment in a frequency band which is different from the others that operate on that frequency band, then there will be interference,” said Nati Schubert.

Even though Apple’s outstanding invention, it is still managing to be banned in other countries. It is amazing what Apple products can do, just because of a certain frequency that’s is going on in the air.

Okiwana Aquarium

Aquariums are usually found in our rooms, living room, or sometimes garage. Fishes have known to be a great starting pet for parents who would like their kids not having any other pet in house. Aquariums can range from having any type of fishes in there, whether they will be salt water fish and fresh water fish, or tropical and other types of fish.

Located in located within the Ocean Expo Commemorative National Government Park in Okinawa, Japan, is It is the world’s second largest aquarium behind the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. The aquarium is made up of four-floors which hold attractions of deep sea creatures, sharks coral and other tropical fish. The aquarium is set on 19,000 m2 and holds a total of 77 thanks with 10,000m3 of water. The main part of the tank is called Kuroshio Sea and holds 7,500 cubic meters (approximately 1,981,290 gallons) of water. This aquarium holds about 80 species of coral and is one of the very few that keep whale sharks in captivity and is currently trying to breed them.

Other activities near the second largest aquarium are shows such as dolphin shows. At these shows people can come up and touch them and watch the presenters perform tasks for the dolphins. There is also a manatee exhibit featuring manatees presented to the aquarium by the Mexican government. Also, there is a beach called Emerald Beach which is accessible the 200 Yen Tram. There is one last exhibit that the aquarium holds, which is a native Okinawa Museum, Oceanic Culture Museum, Tropical Dream Center, Shurijo Castle Park, and the Tropical & Subtropical Arboretum. This is what the second largest aquarium holds in Okinawa, Japan.

The Inexpensive Device…$3

demo-mg

Just recently an MIT student had possibly created one of the most incredible devices to man. Danielle Zurovcik, a doctoral student at MIT, created a hand-powered suction-healing system that only cost about 3 dollars. Doctors aren’t exactly sure why, but when a suction type of force is on an open wound, it dramatically increases the time of healing the wound. According to http://www.fastcompany.com/1616025/mit-student-develops-cutting-edge-low-cost-healing-for-the-developing-world?partner=yahoobuzz, the theory is that the negative pressure draws bacteria out, and encourages circulation. But to many of the average working humans out there, this type of treatment is out of reach, this is because of the old systems are expensive. The average rental cost at least $100 a day and need to be recharged every six hours. This newly and improved device created by Danielle Zurobcik, is now making it possible for average humans to buy this $3 device.

The device is simply made up of an airtight wound dressing, connected by a plastic tube to a cylinder with accordion-like folds. When squeezing the accordion like-fold, it creates suction on the wound which will last as long as there’s no air leak. This treatment should be done three times a day.

Danielle Zurobcik, had intentions of going to Rwanda to field-test the device and make sure things ran smoothly, but out of nowhere Haiti was struck with an earthquake. Danielle Zurobcik was requested by Partners in Health, an NGO, she traveled to Haiti with 50 of the pumps.

As of now, Zurobcik is looking for a more advance way to verify the healing benefits of the device and trying to create a model that can be readily carried and concealed. The only engineering problem for this device is to ensure the bandage will be secured tightly. There are always engineering problems in projects such as these and without them, creations like these would still be at there proto-type. After this engineering problem is addressed, this device could benefit a huge portion of the 50-60 million people in the world that suffer from acute or chronic wounds. Let us see what Zurovcik has in store for us.

Global Warming?

I recently came across an article on Popular Science where it talks about global warming still being a threat to the world. I think that this article: http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2009-10/wwf-report-we-have-until-2014-stop-global-warming, has a completely bias opinion about global warming. This article says global warming will need to be stopped before 2014 or else we, the world, will be in a world disaster.

World Wildlife Fund suggests we come up with new ways to use renewable and all that hippy love stuff where the world will be round and happy. World Wildlife Fund says, “Runaway global warming and economic meltdown are all but unstoppable.” But I for one says that is not true. Sure the world is becoming warm, but when has it never?

The researchers for global warming in this article have all these numbers from 1990 to now and say if we have a minimum growth in all green industries of 22% a year is necessary to achieve that goal, according to their research, and that’s just to cut emissions to 63% of 1990 levels by 2020. Basically what it is saying is we have to do something now before we reach a critical point and suffer for the cause because we all simply just ignored the fact about global warming. It is complete nonsense what they are saying because the world is always evolving.

At Harvard University Press (http://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog/MINEVO.html) , they claim to say that the world is also evolving, but they say it has been doing that since Darwin has kept records since 150 years ago. They explain species are becoming extinct and plants are being wiped out, but they also claim other species are being born and plants are being discovered as new species. The new process or cycle of life may be coming at a slow pace, but it just means the world is evolving and not going to be consequences for global warming to come over.

The organizations people are running are thinking in a manner where they think the world is in a hospice. But really the world is taking off its shell and revealing new things it has to offer and who knows, these new discoveries can lead many scientists to new horizons that man has ever seen before. The world will just have to wait and find out.
